JOHN R CHILDRESS
"SILENT SEAS had to be written.
And it had to be written now. "
~ John R Childress
Throughout his business career, John never lost his fascination with the natural world, especially the Amazon rainforest and the crises facing the ocean. That concern led him to author several eco-educational thriller novels, written with a simple goal: to reach readers who don't follow the science, and pull them toward awareness and action through a good thriller novel.
A scuba diver since 1968 while a Junior Year Abroad student at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, John traces much of his environmental fervor to a book by another marine biologist, Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. Her vision and work remains a touchstone for his environmental writing and speaking.
John lives in London, where he writes full time and speaks on the ocean, the rainforest, and the interconnection of ecosystems. As he puts it, "it's all connected."

John R. Childress graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a BA in Biology in 1970, and then earned a master’s degree in marine and tropical ecology at Harvard University with classes taught by E.O. Wilson and William Bossert. He then began his PhD studies in Marine Ecology at the University of Hawaii, where he worked with Dr. Ernest Reese studying the ecology of intertidal hermit crabs, with a focus on fitness theory and ecosystem dynamics.
In 1975, he left his studies and unfinished doctorate to pursue a different kind of ecosystem: organizational culture. In 1978 he co-founded one of the first international consulting firms focused on leadership and corporate culture. One of his earliest assignments, in 1980, was helping the new management team at Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant build a sustainable safety culture in the aftermath of the 1979 nuclear accident. He went on to serve as President and CEO of his consulting company, Senn-Delaney Leadership Consulting Group, for 23 years before retiring to write six business books on leadership and culture.
